Free Things to Do in Toronto

Toronto, though known to be a pricier city, is actually only as expensive as you make it. There are ample things to do if you are watching your pennies. Check out these free things to do in Toronto:

Parks and Greenery

There are parks all over the city full of walking, biking and running paths.

  • Allen Garden Conservatory boasts international tropical plants from all over the world spread over the 16 000 square feet making up the conservatory.
  • High Park has everything you need for a day of fun; trails, food, and even animals. This park is a utopia of free things to do and see in and of itself. There is a fishing pond, a zoo, hiking, play structures, and the list goes on.
  • Riverdale farm is a rustic style farm that exists right in downtown Toronto. It is an actual working, in use farm, that offers you the opportunity to learn about the chores, the animals, and farm life.

Districts and Neighbourhoods

  • The Distillery Disctrict: Toronto is home to the original largest distillery in the world (back in the 1800s). That distillery is now a fun, vibrant neighbourhood in downtown Toronto. The Distillery district is home to great shops, food, and events, and the architecture alone has a great story to tell, not to mention the fact that some of your favourite movies took place along those streets!
  • Harbourfront: Walk along the water, watch the boats, enjoy the boardwalk. There is food, street performers, gardens, marinas and concerts all along this boardwalk.

It won’t cost you a dime to visit one of the various farmers’ and artisan markets conveniently located all over the city.

Many of the city’s most interesting museums are actually free for you to see and experience, these include many options from the shoe museum to the police museum.
